The tragedy our country suffered on Sept. 11 will never leave us. Those behind the terrorists must be held accountable for their actions. This melting pot of world religions, races, and ethnic diversity called America is great because it embraces the most fundamental of all human rights, freedom to choose. American's of middle eastern heritage have made contributions to our greatness with as high a degree as any other. I checked out the Arab American Institute web page to help remind me of the Nobel Prize winners, athletes, politicians, writers, scientists, businessmen, and so on who have meant so much to our nation. One name, a Kansan, stuck out at me, Col. James Jabara, USAF. Then I recalled with pride his photo on the cover of Life magazine beside his Sabre jet, The Kansas Tornado, after he had become the first jet to jet ace in the world. Col. Jabara flew over 100 missions in WWII, before he was twenty, and 163 in Korea. We are fortunate to have in our community many of the same ethnic background, may we always treat them as Americans.
